EEA INDONESIA
Promoting Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Youth
In Indonesia, with the youth unemployment rate of about 30%, more than six million youth are unemployed. Unemployed youth represent about 60% of the total unemployed. Across Indonesia, youth have few opportunities to learn needed job skills to secure worthy employment or entrepreneurial skills to establish their own ventures. As a result, many find it difficult to make the jump from the classroom to the workforce, at whatever level they leave the formal education system. Rural areas have been particularly hard hit, with unemployment increasing in recent years. The EEA program in Indonesia, locally known as the Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Initiative (YEEI), is designed to address this problem by establishing private-public partnerships that bring together resources, and supporting programs that promote youth employment and entrerpreneurship opportunities.
