Programs
Background
A major survey by the Moroccan Ministry of Youth in 2000 confirmed that unemployment is one of the most significant problems facing youth in Morocco. The study recommended that employment be the first priority of all youth development programs. It said, "to give employment to youth is the obligation of all of society, public sector and private sector together." Like the Ministry, EEA recognizes that it is more than a matter of providing training. It is also a matter of giving every young person an equal chance in the job market.
Programs Overview
EEA Morocco supports projects that make education and training more relevant to the needs of employers, place youth in jobs, and create youth-led enterprises. Since neither the government nor business can do this alone, EEA Morocco-supported projects are always public-private alliances. Each EEA Morocco-supported project has the potential to reach a greater number of youth over time, and introduce innovation through more relevant curricula, teaching methods, technologies and/or partnerships. These Innovative Interventions generally prepare youth to succeed on the job, in the IT-driven world, and by creating enterprises and jobs.
Through support to Innovative Interventions, EEA Morocco not only addresses the short term need of employers for well qualified employees, but also demonstrates how companies can be actively engaged in improving the relevance of education and training. EEA sponsors conferences, roundtables, research and publications through which companies and government can learn what works in working together.
