PROGRAMS

Background
Far too many young people in India face the dual handicap of poor access to schools and too few teachers and materials when they can get to school. These settings fail to motivate children and young people to complete their education, producing a high drop-out rate. This is especially true for girls, whose drop-out rate is nearly 40 percent.

To change that and make sure India’s basic education system is linked to the actual needs of its emerging economy, QUEST focuses on the following:

  • Demonstrating the use of cost-effective, replicable and sustainable education technology tools. The tools and the systems supporting them enhance the quality of teaching and learning, promote equity and improve employment opportunities.
  • Moving education technology discussions into the public and policy arenas through research, outreach, advocacy, dialogue and lobbying.
Programs

QUEST’s partners plan and roll out new initiatives on a continuous basis. Current programs are outlined below:

The Child Friendly School Initiative

The Child Friendly School initiative is a partnership between the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the Azim Premji Foundation and UNICEF. It covers 549 schools across 7 mandals of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh. The project aims to help schools transform, in a sustainable manner, into child friendly schools where every child is learning. The Foundation will assess how ICTs contribute to learning and conduct workshops on how to strengthen commitment and competency among government, school and community officials to convert this plan into action.
